Google Reportedly Wants to Add WiFi Mesh Functionality to a New Version of Google Home

Google may have been late to the game with Google Home when compared to the leader in the segment right now (Amazon Echo), but they've been continuing to improve the product ever since it was released. This has come in the form of opening up the platform with Actions on Google, adding support for various 3rd-party services, and deferring to Google Assistant for tasks that Google Home cannot handle on its own at this very moment.

They actually just launched Google Home and Google WiFi in the United Kingdom within the last 24 hours, so be sure to look out for that if you're in this part of the world. Google Home is getting a lot of attention from Google at this moment and many (including myself) would love to see this expanded on in the years to come. There has even been some rumors about Google making a Google Home product that would let you place phone calls without having to pull your phone out of your pocket, for example.

While this may still be in the works (the initial report talked about a lot of regulatory issues that needs to be satisfied first), it looks as if Google is wanting to combine their Google Home product with their Google WiFi line/ This report comes from The Information, and it is currently in the early stages of discussion within the company. It definitely makes sense for fans of Google hardware as it would prevent you from having to put two different pieces of hardware in various spots around the house.

Sadly, the report doesn't go into any further detail about the likelihood of this product coming to market. It certainly would be a step in the right direction for Google in my eyes since it could cost less than buying two different products, take up less space and give Google Home a feature that Amazon's Echo devices do not have at this moment.
