Depending on where you live, you might or might not be familiar with Samsung's Galaxy A series. Ever since it launched in 2015, it's offered decent specs at reasonable prices and gained a veritable following among smartphone enthusiasts. Now, rumor has it that Samsung's readying the newest Galaxy A8 smartphone, the Galaxy A8 Plus 2018, for launch.
Samsung tends to stick with the same design language when it comes to the Galaxy A series, and the Galaxy A8 2018 appears to be no exception. Leaked photos from Chinese social network Weibo show a tall, Galaxy S8-like edge-to-edge Infinity Display and slightly curved bezels on either side, though it's tough to say for sure.
Assuming the photos are accurate, Samsung appears to have ditched the Galaxy A8 Plus's hardware buttons in favor of software navigation keys. The fingerprint sensor's presumably on the back, along with accouterments like the rear camera and LED flash.
There's no word on the Galaxy A8 Plus 2018's internals, but the A8 historically hasn't been anything to write home about. The Galaxy A8 2016, for example, had a Full HD 5.7-inch display, an octa-core Exynos 7420 processor paired with 3GB of RAM, and a 3,330 mAh. But it was also cheap: In India, the Galaxy A8 retailed for Rs. 25,990 ($403).
Samsung typically takes the wraps off Galaxy A devices betweeen December and January, so it shouldn't be long before we hear more about it.
