Some devices are easier to root than others. Best-case scenerio, you don't have to do much more than unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery, and apply a published exploit. Others need a bit more legwork, and that's when expert advice can be incredibly helpful. XDA Member hikari_calyx recently wrote a guide to flashing a custom recovery and gaining root access to the Nokia 6. The OP has only tested it on the D1C/TA-1000 variant, but says that it should work on any Nokia 6 model running the latest firmware.
