Google finally released Android Oreo a couple of weeks back, and with it came the official source code release in AOSP as well. This means that developers around the world can start building Android's latest update for a device they own. We've been highlighting these unofficial builds lately and now we have a new one to put the spotlight on. For those who want to test an early build of Oreo, you can now do so on the Snapdragon Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (mido).
There are a couple of different versions of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 out there, so make sure you actually own the Snapdragon variant. For those who aren't 100% sure, you can use an application such as AIDA64 from the Google Play Store to probe the hardware and find out what chip yours has.
This early build of LineageOS 15 for the Redmi Note 4 is here thanks to work from XDA Senior Member thp@1997 (as well as the LineageOS team who are bringing it up right now). This XDA Senior Member also gives credit to others within the community who have helped to achieve this early build. They specifically mention XDA member Highwaystar_ru (the person who first booted LOS 15 on the device) as well as Xyxx who both helped the developer get the build to this point.
As mentioned, this is an early build of LineageOS 15 for the Snapdragon Redmi Note 4 so there are some bugs that you should be aware of. For those who are wanting to test out this alpha build, be aware that VoLTE doesn't work, the fingerprint reader (Goodfix) isn't working, and SELinux has been set to passive. If you're willing to deal with those issues though, other components such as RIL, WiFi, Bluetooth, the camera, Fingerprint (FPC only), sensors, FM radio, the LED and GPS are all working.
