After announcing the YouTube TV service back in February, Google is now finally launching the service in the United States. There are already quite a few online TV services available in the market which let users watch their favorite TV channels on multiple platforms on the go. Sling TV, AT&T's DirectTV NOW, and PlayStation Vue are some of the most popular options available in the country to watch live TV.
For a monthly subscription fee of $35, you can now get access to live TV streaming through YouTube TV from broadcasters like ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN, Fox Sports Networks, and Comcast SportsNet to name a few. To make the deal even sweeter, YouTube Red Originals are also included in the package. That means you can watch all the YouTube Red original content from within the YouTube TV app for free, which otherwise would require a monthly subscription fee.
For the time being, many notable networks are missing from the list, but the good news is that Google is working on adding more additional networks to YouTube TV. AMC, BBC America, IFC, Sundance TV, WE tv, and BBC World are some of the networks which will soon be added to the service "at no additional cost." Add-ons are also available for an additional fee if you want to add premium networks to your package. Current add-ons include Showtime and Soccer Plus for a price of $11 and $16 respectively, with channels such as Sundance Now and Shudder coming soon.
With your YouTube TV subscription, you also get access to free unlimited cloud DVR so you can record and store your favorite shows and sports games directly in the cloud. Your recordings will be stored in the cloud up to nine months before they get permanently deleted. Every YouTube TV membership comes with six accounts, and each household can handle up to three concurrent streams at once.
For those who want to try out the service first before subscribing, Google is offering a free one month of YouTube TV. As if that wasn't enough to attract users towards the service, Google is also throwing in a free Google Chromecast to users after their first monthly payment.
YouTube TV is now available in New York, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, and Philadelphia "with more U.S. markets coming soon." The YouTube TV app is already up on the Google Play Store and you can check out the web version here.
